Discipleship
Vision
The vision of the Discipleship Team is that Two Cities Church would be a community of Christ’s disciples, in which every member is growing toward greater Christian maturity in:
Knowing
…Christ and his gospel.
Loving
…Christ and his people.
Serving
…Christ in the world.
Purpose
Our specific purpose as a ministry team is to identify within our church community where growth to greater maturity as disciples of Christ is needed, to provide opportunities for that growth to occur, and to engage others in the church in the work of making and growing disciples.
Principles
Three principles guide the work of our team:
- The goal of Christian discipleship is not merely self-fulfillment, but rather the life of the believer revealing the glory of God, and enabling the believer to participate in extending the kingdom of God.
- Since Christian maturity is more than simply understanding the gospel, Christian discipleship is more than simply imparting knowledge. It also involves building relationships, modeling Christian living, and equipping in practical skills.
- Since growth is needed in many areas of life, and each person is unique, there are many different ways to approach discipleship. For this reason, a single, formulaic approach to discipleship is not likely to result in significant growth to maturity for all the members of the church.
